AT6012 Design Research: Technology Transformations
AT6012 looks at how ecology, energy, and design systems change, and how research methods apply to regenerative practice.
5 ECTS · NFQ Level 9 (UCC Board of Studies, May 2026). 12 weeks part-time, Wednesdays 10:00 to 13:00. ucc.ie/en/at6012.
Design Research. CCAE : UCC / MTU. Part of the CCAE Building Change project.

Student work no longer ends at a grade. Each cohort commits its research into a shared record. The next cohort reads it, checks it, and builds on it.

StuCAN 2025: Entanglement
Reciprocity in the built environment. The StuCAN Festival looks at more-than-human relationships across global and local scales: land, communities, materials, systems, flora, and fauna.
AT6012 meets this theme through quantum ecology, thermodynamics, emergy analysis, and multi-scalar atlassing.
Saturday 18 to Sunday 19 October 2025. Glasgow, Scotland.
Read the page as pairs. A card in the concept row sits on a spectrum with the card below it in the example row, the way the Citation TWiN holds a seminal source beside a current one. Every card has a code and a version stamp, so it can be cited like a glossary entry. Through the editor embedded in the page a comment becomes a contribution, then collaboration, then stewardship. That is the peer-learning continuum.

Learning outcomes
- Map systems and stakeholders across scales to find where a small change shifts the system.
- Apply thermodynamics and emergy analysis to assess resource flows and impacts.
- Use ontology graphs to align concepts, data, and decisions.
- Translate quantum ecology principles into urban and architectural strategies.
- Bring the work together into a regeneration strategy with clear steps.
